Shai Linne's Random Thought's 3 is playing as I write this. One of the lines starts with "I'm just trying to give a healthy demonstration/Of theocentric music for the selfie generation". The lack of Christ in our lives is astonishing, we talk about Jesus' act of love and sacrifice on the cross at church and then go home, forgetting what we heard, sang, and prayed about. Is the Gospel message really our message and ultimate song?
I'd argue it isn't for most people. Though guilty of continually breaking God's law and daily contributors to the wickedness in this world, we can recite scripture and doctrine, the learning of which seemingly has had no effect on us.
The "world" "out there" is wicked, lets keep talking about it while we do nothing. What use is our faith if it is not actively being demonstrated and cultivated through obedience and reverence to our Lord and saviour? And what testimony does this present to others (ones we call "outsiders")? Does this not put us in a worse place than they? How I wish that I could focus more on the Lord and bask in His glory, majesty and grace, if only I would open my Bible, read the commentators, and study for something that will refresh my soul and faith. Rather, I'm studying for a degree that has no use in heaven, and outside of my duty to my wife and child that's due to find a job to support them, has no practical value in and of itself. The argument "studying has value - you learn how to study so that you may better study God's word" doesn't hold water - just study God's word!
I fear that I've fallen into the trap that our modern and "evolved" world has placed (and by no means do I mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist, but the devil does prowl and I beleive has been have earthly power &/or influence) - wake up early, work out to fight to stay fit, work throughout the day on things that rarely benefit anyone except your organization, come home to study if one has chosen to complete school along side work, hang out with your family for a couple hours, and attempt to fall asleep while your mind races to close it all out. Too many things are pushed off to the next day, so many little distractions to keep your mind off of what's important.
